JottingsTomorrow we reach Gaudete Sunday and are exhorted to rejoice with great joy. Rose vestments and musical instruments will be in use for this one day; but it is difficult not to feel that the whole of Advent is suffused with joyous longing and expectation. No one has written more eloquently of this tremendous joy than St Bernard. Watching and waiting, opening ourselves to the Word of God and his daily coming to our souls by grace, how could we be downcast when such great hope is offered us?
