JottingsEpiphany is marked by light and shade, fragrant with incense and full of strange harmonies. The liturgy is so rich, and somehow much more impressive than Christmas. Perhaps it is because the focus is less on the Baby or the shepherds as actors in a drama and more on the significance of the drama itself. There are some things that only poetry can express, and the liturgy of Epiphany is deeply poetic. At Vespers we shall sing of the three miracles that mark this day: the coming of the Magi, the baptism in the Jordan and the turning of water into wine at the Marriage Feast of Cana.
